Working Mom |
One morning as I was buying vegetables from the vegetable seller who happened to stroll around the complex. While busily shopping, out came a middle-aged woman, a neighbor from the front row house.
"Uh ... I think you used to go to work, didn't you? So you're not working anymore, huh?" suddenly she asked me.
"No, Ma'am," I grinned.
"No wonder ... I usually saw you went to work with husband. You kept your child with your parents, right?" she continued asking.
"Yes," I nodded again.
"Well, it must be awful to have to stay at home when you're used to working outside the house before, isn't it?" said she, "you must be bored."
"Oh, well, I'm working at home now, Ma'am," I said quickly. "I am writing a book and every day I write at home."
"Oo ...," she laughed crisply instead.
Hastily, I left and returned home with the vegetables that I have bought.
"Hhh...," I sighed. The unemployment issues, condition of not working outside the home (aka: the office) always draws attention from anyone. And almost all of them think that it's unpleasant to be a jobless (not working at the office), someone who lives at home and not doing anything.
My ... if they only knew, my everyday work at home is never ending. In fact, sometimes I complain to God why there are only 24 hours in day and night. I need more than that because now I spend my time almost entirely to work ... doing the housework, make a Squidoo lens, accompany Aini ... sometimes, I even find it difficult to find a time to just lay and rest in a day.
I smiled to myself, then. Well, whatever. They do not know what day I go through, and it's not easy to explain to them about what I do even though I don't work in the office anymore. Not many people who can understand the fun of internet marketing world that I'm now learning, in addition to a writing routine that I do every day.
They also will not understand the difficulty that I face having to handle all the housework by myself without servants; babysitting, cooking, washing and ironing clothes, cleaning the house, PLUS ... working in front of the computer that requires a high concentration!
I can only try to be patient. Such common words are often heard from people after I decided to stop working from the office a few months ago. Well, whatever. I just grinned. Alone.
The above story is my real story, it happened just some months after I quit my office work.
Now, it's been about three months that I have an assistant that helps me with my daily chores at home. Thank God, I've finally found the help! Though my assistant only comes to help early in the morning and goes back to her home at around 10 AM, she gives a big help for me. I can start working on the Internet or writing my books from morning.
I just want to share my experience to you, how I felt about people's cynical expressions for an office mom who decides to work fully at home.
