Get To Know Kids Sewing Machine

Sewing Machine

Sewing is a very fun hobby that adults and kids can do. Mastering sewing will open to unlimited possibility of making sewn crafts such as clothes, skirts, bags, tablecloths, bed sheets, and others. Sewing skills can be done either manually or using a sewing machine.

There are advantages and disadvantages of each of them, for example, sewing by hand is more flexible but slow, while the sewing machine is done faster, but limited by the ability of the machine itself. The same is true for children. Children can learn to sew by hand or using a sewing machine. However, the machine used is the sewing machine for the kids. This machine can sew perfectly, but it has been equipped with various features that ensure children learn to sew safely and comfortably.

The easiest way to recognize your sewing the machine is by use it for a variety of sewing projects. You can help your child recognize his sewing machine starting from the common parts in the machine such as needles, needle threader, bobbins, thread, and spools. Also, introduce children to the types of stitches available in the machine. Some machines only provide straight stitch pattern, but there are also machines that provide zigzag stitching pattern.

Other important parts of the machine also include:

  • Tension dial : where you tune the thread tension for different materials
  • Foot pedal : step on the pedal and the machine will work, you can also use hand switch to turn on/ off the machine
  • Storage Compartment : a small box where you can keep your sewing equipment’s such as bobbins, threader, needles, etc.

Sewing Machine Speed

In general sewing machines, there are different speeds ranging from normal, medium, and fast. In children sewing machines, there is generally only one or two types of speed only. Choosing the right speed will determine the quality of the stitches.

For example, if you choose a high speed to sew thick materials like denim, the likely result is not as good as on cotton. So even when combining speed with stitching patterns. Intricate stitch patterns should use a low speed so that the results are as expected.

Once you understand any parts of your sewing machine, you can start making sewing crafts starting from the easy ones to hard.
